BAKING FOR A HEALTHY DIET

A lot of people wrongly believe that if they want to eat healthy.....one of the things that they have to give up is carbohydrate foods.....like cakes, bread and biscuits. Actually such sacrifices are just not necessary as you cn get all these foods to fit into a healthy eating regime as they in fact contribute many important nutrients to your diet.

EAT A LITTLE OF  WHAT YOU FANCY

Cakes, biscuits and other baked goods are generally thought of as being high in fat and sugar but this is not always the case as it is very easy to bake nutritious and delicious cakes, scones, biscuits and muffins by minimising fat and sugar but never compromising on taste and texture.  The trick is to add fruits and  vegetables to add extra nutrients and flavour.
Balance, variety and moderation are the key to healthy eating .....making a positive contribution to your overall health.

BALANCE - your intake of baked items with other types of food. Instead of eating 2 slices of a cake or teabread.....substitute one slice for a serving of fruit to make a well-rounded snack. When enjoying a biscuit or a muffin..... drink milk or a fruit juice alongside.

VARIETY - is the way to go. As much as possible try to include all different types of foods...... starchy carbs such as pasta, rice, potatoes and bread ; protein rich lean meat and poultry, fish and pulses, fruits and vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds and dairy products.
IN MODERATION  - sweet baked items and rich cakes should be eaten on special occasions only ....rather than often.
