In India ......rice is a staple and in south india where I live no meal is complete without many dishes made of rice. BUT TRY TO AVOID THE WHITE HIGHLY POLISHED VERSION .......AS IT IS STRIPPED OF ALL ITS NUTRIENTS AND THEREFORE ITS BASIC GOODNESS.
Rice is an important source of complex carbohydrates, fibre and essential nutrients like folate, magnesium, oryzanol, selenium and Vit B6.  Rice is a good alternative for polple with wheat gluten allergies.
Do not over rinse the rice before cooking as that would also wash away the essential nutrients. Only use enough water for the cooking process so that you do not throw away any water.
