EAT  TO  BEAT  DIABETES !!!!

Diabetes, to a large extent, begins and ends with food ....which is the body's glucose source. Being diabetic does not mean that you can never enjoy your favourite dishes or desserts. BUT IT DOES MEAN THAT YOU HAVE TO STRIKE A VERY VERY CAREFUL BALANCE !! You need to follow a plan that helps you cut calories, control your weight and always keeps your  blood sugar under control.Making wise choices with carbs and exchanging high calorie foods with low cal is the only way to go. ALSO EXCHANGING ORDINARY CARBS FOR COMPLEX CARBS IS IMPORTANT.....IN OTHER WORDS ADDING FIBRE .   If you do not look on it as a diet but as a life long habit which will help you attain better health.........YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.
From personal experience I can tell you that all of the above is not as easy as it sounds. Especially when you are in company and everybody is exhorting you to eat some more  !! I cannot say "I HAVE BEEN A DIABETIC" I can only say "I AM A DIABETIC" because once a diabetic ...always a diabetic.......but hey....that's not as bad as it sounds...cause I have learnt to enjoy my life but always keeping in mind my limitations.
As my doc is want to tell me........NO SUGAR...NOT EVEN A GRAIN....AND WALKING OR EXERCISING EVERY DAY. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO GO. And I have heeded his advice very seriously. Its been a good 7 years and my sugar levels are always good. I do partake of desserts but always only a teaspoon quantity.

It should come as no surprise that diet is a key part of managing your diabetes......as after all glucose only comes from food and therefore plays a key role in making your blood sugar go up or come down. But you should not look on food as "the problem" , rather consider it as a big part of the solution that can actually help in turning around the course of the disease.
The food you eat can be your medicine as the right diet ....for people with type 2 diabetes...is as powerful as medicine. Fortunately what you eat does not have to taste like medicine and all your favourite foods need not be  forbidden. Actually the truth is that.......... a healthy diet  is the same for anybody else as it is for a diabetic.  Recent research shows that "sugar" is not the villain it was once thought to be and option os for healthy eating have now been expanded. The whole emphasis  now is on choices and how some choices are better than others.

ALSO THE MOST AMAZING FACT IS THAT FEW SERIOUS DISEASES ALLOW YOU TO FIGHT BACK AS  MUCH AS DIABETES DOES.  IF YOU TAKE THE RIGHT STEPS  YOU CAN LIVE A FULL AND ACTIVE LIFE.  SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE MANAGED TO SUCCESSFULLY TURN THEIR DIABETES AROUND BECAUSE OF THE CHANGES THEY MADE NOW FEEL HEALTHIER OVERALL.

Exercise helps gobble up glucose and this will immediately bring your blood sugar down. If you exercise regularly your body will manage the glucose better even when you are resting. Exercise will also help you to lose weight, make your heart and lungs stronger, lowers your blood pressure and cholestrol.....all of which are complications of diabetes.
Just over 20 minutes of excercising is absolutely necessary. 40 minutes is good as it takes the first 20 minutes to just  kickstart your metabolism. What you do additionally will determine how much weight you will lose.
